It is no secret that binge watching box sets has been a blessing for us all during lockdown, and Netflix’s Bridgerton certainly didn’t disappoint. ‘Regency London’s Gossip Girl’ charmed the hearts of the globe, and is set to return for series two.

Bridgerton was created by Chris Van Dusen and is based on the novel series by Julia Quinn. Its plot centres around two families, predominantly the Bridgertons, in a reimagined Regency London.

Set in 1813, this colourful, scandalous and exciting series follows Daphne, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family as she enters London’s high society searching for a suitable marriage.

But that’s not all!

Scandals, elaborate balls and romantic scenes are intertwined, and of course the iconic narration from Julie Andrews is also a major crowd pleaser.

Netflix announced that the show has become it’s ‘biggest series ever’ as it was streamed by 82 million households in its first 28 days.

The cast of Bridgerton were overwhelmed with the response,

Phoebe Dynevor who plays Daphne Bridgerton wrote: “This is utterly insane. I am so proud of the incredible team behind this show and thank you guys for loving it. MADNESS”

Rege-Jean Page who plays the Duke of Hastings and Daphne’s love interest tweeted:

“82 million, with love from all of us to all of you “.

Series two was announced by the streaming giants on January 21st.

There is no set date for when it will arrive on our screens but we do know that the second series is set to follow the eldest Bridgerton son, Anthony and his love interest, Kate.
