NEWS ROUNDUP: Mount St Mary’s Renovation Approved
Planning chiefs have given the go-ahead to convert a 19th century east Leeds church, which has stood empty for more than 30 years, into new flats. The scheme for Mount St Mary’s Church in Richmond Hill will see 175 flats built over two buildings – which developers have insisted will be sympathetic to the existing church building. Members of Leeds City Council’s City Plans Panel voted unanimously in favour of the plans, despite some residents living nearby objecting to them. Someone who has more of an interest than most that the building is brought back to life is Glenis Buckley who married husband Anthony in the church back in 1963. She says she would love to make it to their 60th wedding anniversary with the building still in tact and, also, brought back to life.
