NEWS ROUNDUP: COVID-19 Update and Oarsome Rowing Feat
Jasmine Harrison, a 21-year-old who had never rowed in her life until last January has become the youngest woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo. Jasmine, from Thirsk in North Yorkshire, set off on her gruelling 3,000-mile journey in December. She completed the trek in 70 days, 3 hours and 48 minutes.
As Covid-19 infection rates continue to fall, the Leeds rate is down from 193 to 158 per 100,000 people at time of recording. The lowest rate in Yorkshire is in Scarborough, which has seen the rate drop from 99.3 to 56.1.
Vicar Lane in central Leeds has reopened to bus traffic going both ways for the first time in 50 years. It’s hoped the amendment will improve reliability and journey times by removing a bottleneck on The Headrow at New Briggate.
