SAFETY SECURED: Leeds ease past Southampton at Elland Road
Leeds United ended a run of back-to-back defeats in sensational style with a three goal victory over Southampton.
Patrick Bamford scored his 13th goal of the season before goals from Stuart Dallas and Raphinha saw Leeds run out 3-0 winners.
Southampton did have a penalty overturned by VAR and a goal ruled out in the first half, with the sides entering the break scoreless.
Leeds dominated the second half and were good value for their three points, with Raphinha’s free kick putting the gloss on a fine victory
Although Leeds won by 3 goals, manager Marcelo Bielsa highlighted that scoring the first goal was vital:
“The difference of the three goals is different to how it was between the two teams, even if I think the victory was deserved. Throughout the game it was difficult to establish differences between the two teams.
"When the games are so close, the team that scores first gets the advantage. It is not definitive but has weight.
Bielsa also heaped praise on summer signing Raphinha who has shined since arriving in Yorkshire.
"Raphinha is a player very necessary because he can unbalance teams by himself. Our game is based on combinations and to have a player who can combine and create in individual actions, that is very important."
