ARLENE PHILLIPS: The real cost of being a Grandparent
You’ll recognise this guest as a former Judge on hit dancing show - Strictly Come Dancing!
And now, dance choreographer and TV personality Arlene Phillips has two wonderful grandchildren whom she adores. But what is the real cost of actually being a Grandparent?
Research has been conducted on the true impact a Grandchildren has and the following results came back:
- 59% of Grandparents say their children never reimburse them for childcare.
- Nearly 2 in 5 grandparents think their generation was better at saving than their grandchildren.
- A third of grandparents are planning of leaving their grandchildren money in their will.
- Grandparents give £243 each year to their grandchildren.
For Arlene - it is set to be a busy week as according to numerous tabloids, she is set to receive a dame hood in the Queen’s birthday honours.
The 78-year-old was director and choreographer of Hot Gossip, a regular on TV in the late 1970s and early 1980s, worked on the West End and Broadway, and then on Strictly.
The BBC was accused of ageism after Phillips was famously dropped from Strictly and replaced by younger star Alesha Dixon in 2009.
She was appointed a CBE in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to dance and charity.
Either way, Arlene’s grandchildren will no doubt be very proud of her!
