Bradford's Kala Sangam Arts Centre will host the first meeting of a Committee set up to support West Yorkshire’s Cultural and Arts sector.

West Yorkshire’s Culture, Arts and Creative Industries Committee was set up after Tracy Brabin became the first West Yorkshire Mayor this Summer.

Support for arts and culture was one of her key pledges.

The Committee will be made up of Councillors as well as representatives from groups such as Bradford Literature Festival and Screen Yorkshire.

Among the items being discussed at the first meeting, next Thursday at 1pm, are the current state of the arts, culture and tourism sector, which employs 167,000 people in West Yorkshire, and Ms Brabin’s “Creative New Deal.

The Authority has approved £500,000 to develop the Creative New Deal, which involves work to help local night life recover post-Covid, support Bradford’s bid for City of Culture, give locals the skills to work in the sector and possibly develop an “enterprise zone” in the Langthwaite area of Wakefield, that would focus on creative industries.
