LEEDS OLDER PEOPLE’S FORUM: Age Proud Festival

Time to Shine at Leeds Older People’s Forum has confirmed that it will hold its first AGE PROUD FESTIVAL from Monday 6th to Friday 17th September 2021.

The festival has three main aims: -
● To promote the wellbeing of older people in Leeds and have some fun!
● To challenge the stereotype/perception of older age and turn the negatives into
positives, and..
● Showcase how many amazing activities there are for people aged 50+ in Leeds.

The festival will promote a range of activities from a Leeds Central ‘hub’ and a range of hubs across Leeds with all activities listed in a festival brochure available on the Age Proud Festival website. Venues will include Libraries, Art Galleries, Museums, Theatres, Cinemas, Leisure Centres, Shopping Centres and Neighbourhood Networks.

Activities will centre around 5 key wellbeing categories: -
● Connect
● Be Active
● Keep Learning
● Take Note
● Giving

Activities will hopefully include (amongst many) creative writing, speed dating, stand-up comedy, dance, sporting memories, City heritage, photography, learn to swim, arts and food.

Local businesses and organisations will be invited to be a part of the festival by offering activities that will appeal to older people (anyone over the age of 50).

Time to Shine Programme Manager and Festival Organiser Linda Glew is keen to raise awareness of the great benefits of growing older in a forward-thinking city like Leeds, and this multi-site, multi-cultural event provides a great platform to do just that.

“We have a wonderful opportunity to showcase the very best of what Leeds has to offer older people and we are delighted by the enthusiastic response from organisations who have already indicated that they would like to take part in this event. The more the merrier!”

If you are a business or organisation that would like to be part of the Leeds Age Proud Festival visit www.Ageproudfestivalleeds.org to register. There is no cost to take part and you will be responsible for running your own live or virtual event within the festival programme.
