NATIONAL SPORTING HERITAGE DAY: Huddersfield Giants Community Trust

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS SPORTING HERITAGE | National Sporting Heritage Day honours our sporting past and future, and part of this year’s event saw the Huddersfield Giants Community Trust hold a ‘Looking Back’ reminiscence session at The Zone.

They’ll now be giving supporters, volunteers and ex-players a weekly in-person chance to share their rugby league collections and memories, alongside the Zoom sessions they have been hosting this year.

National Sporting Heritage Day, held on Thursday 30th September, saw the history of UK sport celebrated by schools, sports clubs, museums, and community groups as they showcased  an amazing variety of sporting memorabilia, objects, photographs, audio and film.

Celebrating its seventh year, the National day aims to raise awareness of the importance and value of sporting heritage across the four nations and encourages the public to celebrate and access the sporting collections and stories that exist within their community collections.

From local, grassroots projects to national sport organisations, this year there was a particular focus to put the spotlight on marginalised groups including women, and disability in sport, along with encouraging conversations between the generations to support young people learn about the sporting pioneers that came before them.

Sporting Heritage CIC is a not-for-profit community interest company working specifically to support the collection, preservation, access and research of sporting heritage in the UK.
