NEWS ROUNDUP: Roundhay fire and apartment block plan
West Yorkshire Police Detectives are appealing for information after a major fire at a derelict school in Leeds which is being treated as arson.
Forty firefighters were called to the former Elmete Wood School in Roundhay on Saturday evening. Nearby residents were warned to stay indoors due to the potential risk from smoke from the fire. The police are trying to trace a group of youths seen at the site before the fire.
Plans to build a 20-storey apartment block east of Leeds city centre is set to go before council planning chiefs at a meeting this week. A proposal for a “stepped building” at land off Foundry Street and Saxton Lane is set to include 204 “build to rent” apartments, more than half of which would be one-bedroom.
