WILLIAM SPEAKS OUT: BBC apologise after inquiry into Bashir Diana interview

The BBC have apologised after a report by Lord Dyson found journalist Martin Bashir to be “unreliable”, “devious” and “dishonest”.

An inquiry took place 25 years on from the infamous Panorama programme - with Prince William offering a damning response.

The BBC accepts Lord Dyson’s findings - with employees of the broadcaster using fake documents to obtain an interview with the late Princess Diana. Martin Bashir had faked bank statements - a serious breach of BBC guidelines the report said - using them to gain access to Diana through her brother Earl Spencer. He spoke to the BBC Panorama programme.

Justice Secretary Robert Buckland has also suggested an apology from the BBC may not be the end of the matter.

Well the latest statement from Prince Harry reads,

“To those who have taken some form of accountability, thank you for owning it. That is the first step towards justice and truth. Yet what deeply concerns me is that practices like these – and even worse – are still widespread today.

Then, and now, it’s bigger than one outlet, one network, or one publication.

Our mother lost her life because of this, and nothing has changed. By protecting her legacy, we protect everyone, and uphold the dignity with which she lived her life. Let’s remember who she was and what she stood for.”

The BBC have apologised and accepted points raised in the report - Bashir, the journalist at the centre of the royal storm is currently taking time away from the broadcaster on medical grounds.
