YOUR YORKSHIRE CREATIVE CORNER: Craft Centre and Design Gallery
Your Yorkshire Creative Corner | Craft Centre and Design Gallery, Leeds
Your Yorkshire recently launched a ‘Creative Corner’ to provide a platform for your creations. Are you a painter, poet, musician or maker? If you’d like to be featured, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
An exhibition of prints in the city of Leeds continues to encourage visitors to take a mindful moment as the next phase of lockdown eases in the UK.
Solace, showcasing works by 5 celebrated printmakers at The Craft Centre and Design Gallery until 30th October, has welcomed increased footfall as visitors start to re-emerge and re-visit their favourite destinations.
Yorkshire artist Julia Ogden, whose work is fuelled by her love of nature, showcases her screenprinted works celebrating the great outdoors alongside Ashley Hutchinson, Phil Greenwood, Tim Southall and Alice Pattullo.
Peaceful Hummingbirds mid-flight, the calm of watching them collecting nectar and visitors being able to immerse themselves in the scenes Julia depicts of them spreading their wings makes this printmaker one of the most popular choices at the gallery, now approaching their 40th year championing handmade contemporary craft in Leeds.
Always a fan of a good story Julia studied illustration at Edinburgh College of Art where a passion for screen printing soon followed.
As well as her beautiful screenprints, Julia is well-known for her soft, dreamlike landscapes of places close to her heart from her studio, which recently opened its doors to visitors for Hebden Bridge Open Studios event.
Julia, as seen on the BBC’S Home is Where the Art Is and Interior Design Masters, says of her work; “My aim is to make art that makes people smile; bright pictures to escape grey days…” making her collection the perfect choice for this carefully curated exhibition.
