FRUSTRATING: ex-Bristol Rovers forward Akinde makes The Gas pay
John Akinde scored twice against his former club Bristol Rovers to hand Gillingham three points.
Akinde could have had a hat-trick but missed from the penalty spot with Gas 'keeper Joe Day denying him.
Rovers had 20 shots (four on target) but couldn't grab a goal themselves.
Luke McCormick almost opened the scoring but seen his free-kick bang back off the crossbar.
Akinde's two second-half goals were enough to hand The Gas their seventh defeat in the last 10.
New manager bounce?
Bristol Rovers have confirmed that Joey Barton will take over as the club's new manager.
Barton joins The Gas after leaving Fleetwood Town last month.
The 38-year-old has signed a contract that runs until 2023 at the Memorial Stadium.
He becomes the club's third manager this season replacing the previously sacked Paul Tisdale.
Tisdale was brought in back in November after Ben Garner was removed as manager following three wins in the first 11 league games of the season.
